A Persons Identifity in the Short Story, Wakefield, by...

A person’s identity is dependent more than an intrinsic spirit because otherwise it would not be called â€Å"identity†. A spirit, individuality, reminiscence is something that it is impossible to alter. An individual might become different; however, profoundly we continue to be that individual. â€Å"Wakefield† expounds the concept of the story in the shape of an ordinary imaginary- to leave his wife and his home and to hold the control to realize the result that the nonappearance has in the loveliest person’s that he left without any knowledge about him. Wakefield is a character that decides to take a decision that changes his life completely. He decides to go far away from the society; and the most importantly from his family and his beloved wife. Without the knowledge of his wife of his disappearance he refuses to go back home even that he finds out that his wife is sick and might die. Wakefield goes back to his family just after 20 years of disappear ance even that he lived nearby just to see how his wife will react. He goes back like he was living in that house every day and continues his old manner of life. Wakefield is a character who is in a quest to find his identity and is self-determining. The one point of the story is that his profound desire to disappear from the life he was living, to be imperceptible, and to discover the happenings of the world without the contagion of any individual’s existence. He decided to be isolated from the world living his life

Communicating with Words in Chinua Achebes Things Fall Apart

Words are the most complex, yet simple form of communication between human beings. They form an eternal bond to the future by preserving ideas from the past and present. Just as a picture depicts a specific event, words form sentences that can enlighten that event in greater detail. It is the writer’s responsibility to choose the most appropriate way to organize words into a painting of a stunning sunset or a thesis of scientific theory. The beauty of words is that there is neither a wrong nor correct way to use them. One common way to use words in African culture is in proverbs. These short sayings employ folk tales and everyday occurrences to offer the wisdom necessary to explain crucial rudimentary morals. Chinua Achebe states in his novel, Things Fall Apart, that â€Å"†¦proverbs are the palm-oil with which words are eaten.† (7). Interpreting this in such a way so that eating words is a metaphor for gaining knowledge, proverbs act as the fuel, or moving force, of African life. Conversation in the Ibo culture is highly valued because it exposes the intentions of who is speaking. Proverbs are used to justify the opinions and motives of the speaker by using words of wisdom. Okonkwo’s father, Unoka, is an ideal example of someone using proverbs to show the necessity of an intelligent conversation. In order to talk Okoye into lending him more money he says, â€Å"’Our elders say that the sun will shine on those who stand before it shines on those who kneel under them.’† (7). Veterinary Essay Example For Students

Veterinary Essay When I first arrived Lisa The girl that I shadowed told me thatthere was an emergency with one of the animals. It ended up that a one-year-oldbeagle ate an entire thing of metabolite, and then slowly started to die. Theliver had shut down, and the heart rate was up to 300. Lisa told me that takinga thing of metabolite was like taking 50 cups of coffee at once. The owners ofthe beagle were there and bowling. The beagles name was Murry. Murrys bodyslowly was shutting down one thing after another. The owners made the decisionthe dog was going to be put to sleep. We got the dog ready to be taken out. Theyundid all the cords from the dog so they could take it to another room. I saidgoodbye to the dog, and then they took it into the other room so that the ownerscould be there when they put him to sleep. After that happened they then had toput a sleep a little hedgehog that had cancer on its mouth. We then did tworegular checkups with one cat and with one dog. Those when great. After that w ehad a dog come in and it ended up having an affection that might end up killingit. I never heard the end result. The last thing that I did there was that ablack lab had been bitten by another dog, and that dog ripped a hole in the neckof the black lab. The doctors had to perform surgery on the dog to close up theholes in the neck. They first had to clean it out with qutips. And blood statedto come out right then I was a little dizzy and I thought I was going to faint. And a cat get abath and they had to blow dry it and brush the hair while it was a sleep. Ithought that the work place environment was very clean and very professional. Onmy pictures on the poster it shows you that they even had a place for dogs to goin and a separate place for cats to go in they also have different waiting roomsfor each of them. I could easily be able to work in a place that is that clean, and so organized. I learned multiple things there from chemicals how much theyneed how much they use math and science, to there organization skills, and thereabillity to be able to communicate with the animals and be able to not cry evertime they have to put them to sleep. The things that they do hardly relate towhat Im doing in school right now, because Im not that smart yet. But inscience we are learning about different chemicals together and how they make areaction. Also Im learning how to keep everything nice and organize d, so Iknow where everything that I need is. I observed many behaviors that they showedthat would be important in a lot of jobs. One of those are there communicationskills. To be able to work with many different people under the type of stressthat they can be in is hard. That aplies to a lot of jobs because a lot ofdifferent jobs make you work under a lot of stress with many different people atthe same time. There are countless skills that you take on with you to collegeor even work. Kindness, cleanness, organization, and most of all people skillswith out that you not be able to handle being in a job with other people. Beinga veterinarian is something that I have always even since I was a little girlhave wanted to be. I have always loved animals expesialy dogs. I love to takecare of them to train them, and most of all to make them feel better. This isexactly what a veterinarian does every day. Nothing was really bad about the jobshadow. It was a great experience and I had a lot of f un. But one thing is theanimals dying a dog and a hedgehog. It was really sad to see the owners crying, but to become a veterinarian you have to get used to being around animals dying, and putting them to sleep often. The thing that I liked the most was beingable to help them out when they need. Even if it was just holding the dog or catdown. I loved being in one of the al fits and being able to interact with thedoctors and help out the animals even though Im under age. I still more thenever want to be a veterinarian being with the animals and on the site just builtup my hopes of becoming one even more. I cant wait till I go to college andstudy about this. This dream of becoming a veterinarian I dont think willever pass I want it way to much. The most important thing that I learned wouldhave to be that you need to be able to handle yourself in front of patients thatare in tears because of there animal. And that you need to be the steady one notthe one that is falling a part because y ou just put an animal to sleep.

Sign Language essays

Sign Language essays Theology being my major, I chose to reflect upon and research how deaf people worship religiously. It had never occurred to me before. Growing up there was no interpreter at Mass. Now I had to ask myself: What kinds of religious deaf groups are out there? How difficult is it to find a parish near your residence that can sign for you? I also was able to experience a few Masses for myself with an interpreter that gave me a better understanding of all of this. I was surprised as I searched the Internet for religious sign. Although the groups of people and organizations are not enormous, there is a larger quantity of these types of groups that I would have thought. There is a church called Valley Bible Church located in Lancaster, California that has an informative website about deaf ministry. They have at least one service every Sunday that is signed for the hearing impaired. On top of that they have a specialDeaf Worship? in a separate room exclusively for those of the Deaf community. According to Deaf in America Deaf is different from deaf. There are people who cannot hear who are not part of the Deaf community. Hence this worship at Valley Bible Church is for theDeaf? community, not just anyone who is deaf or hard-of-hearing. This website impressed me most with its video ASL dictionary of religious words. It has more words that I can count. Any word you would want to know in ASL concerning religion is easily found here. The Catholic Deaf Community of the Syracuse Diocese was extremely helpful as well. I am impressed to see that this community has a camp called Camp Mark Seven, which is mainly a Catholic camp focusing on deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Prices range from $300 to $700 for one week. The programs look awesome. It is neat that deaf children have the option of having theirown? summer camps too. The Syracuse Diocese Deaf Community mission statement is as follows:We are a c ...

Are you guilty of sending those dreaded generic LinkedIn invitations Dont do it!

Are you guilty of sending those dreaded generic LinkedIn invitations Dont do it! At a recent social event, I met a masters degree student who wanted to connect with me on LinkedIn. I found her profile on my handy mobile app and handed her my phone so she could confirm I had the correct person. Before I knew what was happening, she had pushed the â€Å"Connect† button. I had unwittingly sent out (gasp!) a cookie cutter invitation on LinkedIn. I’ll tell you a secret: I once did this myself. That big blue Connect button is just too tempting!! The generic LinkedIn invitation is a pet peeve of most LinkedIn experts and business people on LinkedIn, prompting such snarkily written articles as Why I Didn’t Accept Your LinkedIn Request. While I realize that following instructions will not in a million years prevent you from ever sending out a generic LinkedIn message again, I hope they will at least decrease the occurrence of this social gaffe. Initiating a Connection the Right Way Prior to LinkedIns recent interface update, it was easy to mistakenly send a generic â€Å"I’d like to join your LinkedIn network† message from your desktop app. With the new LinkedIn, you get a nudge not to go down this road. After clicking on the Connect button you’ll have a choice of whether to Add a note or Send now. Click Add a note and you’ll have this nice blank box to fill in: Write your note (300 characters) and send! If you don’t choose to add a note and accidentally hit â€Å"Send now,† your connection will get an email that looks something that looks like this: What would someones incentive be for accepting such a generic invitation? Most people won’t. How to Send a Mobile Invitation the Right Way! When I deliver LinkedIn workshops, I always make a point of teaching people how to send a customized, personal invitation from their phones, so as not to send the dreaded â€Å"I’d like to join your LinkedIn network† canned message. I give careful instructions and invite people to practice by connecting with me. Nine times out of 10, someone in the audience pipes up, â€Å"Oops! I just sent you a generic invitation by mistake!† Despite the potential futility of doing so, I will now explain how to personalize your invitations on your mobile device. To send a customized invitation via iPhone or Android, go to your contacts profile and click the 3-dot †¦ button in the upper right (tie your hands behind your back and do NOT click CONNECT!! LinkedIn will not warn you on your phone that you’re about to send a generic invitation): From the dropdown menu, click Personalize Invite (note this menu might vary depending on what operating system you’re using): And write your message. On some Android devices, after going to a member’s profile, you may need to tap either the Menu or the More button, then Customize Invite, write your message and Send. What Should I Say? If you want to make a connection and youre stuck on what to say, you can say something about someone you know in common, or about a place you used to work together or where they work now. Perhaps mention a conversation they started or participated in a LinkedIn group. Or maybe you have a potential work project for them. Be friendly and let them know you are human! Fixing Mistakes If you accidentally connect with someone without including a message, you can always cancel the invitation or, if you miss the window for cancellation, you may be able to send another message with a customized note later. Note that this second solution will only work for people who accept non-InMail messages, or if you are able to send InMail! To rescind your invitation before it’s accepted, click on the My Network tab: Next, click â€Å"Manage all† in the upper right-hand corner: On the resulting page, click on Sent and you’ll get a list of pending invitations. You can click on Withdraw to cancel that message you sent accidentally. Practice! Now that you know the basics about LinkedIn invitations, heres a chance to practice Click here to connect with me on LinkedIn! If we’re already connected, find someone else you want to add to your network and send them a nice message. You’ll both be glad you did. Antitrust Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Antitrust - Article Example Clearly, these companies were going against the law (Burns, 1958). There are however wealthy and have great financial power that gave them the strength to challenge court rulings and could hire highly qualified and expensive lawyers. The companies, namely Google, Apple, Adobe and Intel requested the appeals court to nullify Judge Koh’s ruling. Their financial power would surely influence the appeals court to act in their favor. Judge Koh’s argument was that the settlement as desired by the four companies was way to low due to the antitrust law, and that the plaintiff’s lawyers just did not do their job keenly and aggressively. She was quite thorough in her review of the antitrust settlement issue. Similarly, there was another case involving domestic airlines. This industry is characterized by great competition, especially in areas where air traffic is highly valued due to needs such as urgent business, transportation of perishable goods and availability of 24hour economies. Some airlines, especially the upcoming ones, tend to lower their air fares and increase their flights to hundreds of destinations so as to attract more clients. This creates competition against the well-established airlines that have a large number of customers and still charge highly for their flights. The Persian Gulf Airlines with the pacts called open skies agreement have been under attack by unions as well as other alliances of domestic airlines. Some even forget their business differences and enmity to come together and form collisions against a single competitor. This tussle can be seen in the case where the American Airlines, Delta and the United Airlines joined forces and lobbied the Obama Adminis tration to restrict access by the fast growing Emirates, Etihad Airlines and Qatar Airways. They argued that this Middle East carriers received a lot of government subsidies. As
